Vincent Leeuwenburgh obtained his master’s degree in Life Science and Technology in 2016 at Leiden University. His bachelor thesis dealt with optogenetic tools to study G-protein coupled receptor function, working at Prof. Thomas Schmidt’s Physics of Life Processes research group at the Leiden Institute of Physics; whereas during his MSc thesis he worked on the synthesis of light-upconverting-dye containing silica-coated liposomes, evaluating these as potential nanocarriers for light-activated anticancer pro-drugs (Web) under supervision of Dr. Sylvestre Bonnet and Sven Askes at the MCBIM research group, Leiden Institute of Chemistry. Continuing to pursue these interdisciplinary research interests, he joined Dr. Walvoort’s research group in 2017, where he is working on a research project focused on developing activity-based probes to study altered metabolism in cancer cells, in collaboration with Rudolf Fehrmann at the department of Medical Oncology at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG). The project is made possible by a grant from the Young Academy Groningen (YAG).
