Yu-Jen received her B.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences from National Chung Cheng University (Taiwan) in 2019. During her undergraduate studies, she worked with Dr. Ching-Ching Yu on the chemoenzymatic synthesis of sulfated human milk oligosaccharides. She also completed a summer internship in Dr. Takashi Angata’s group at the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Academia Sinica (Taiwan), focusing on the functional complementation of sialyltransferase in chronic lymphocytic leukemia B-cells.
She obtained her M.Sc. in Biochemical Sciences from National Taiwan University in 2021 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Chi-Huey Wong. Her research focused on the synthesis and application of glycoengineered antibodies, where she performed glycoengineering techniques and handled primary cells to evaluate the antibodies’ functions and properties. Afterward, she returned to Academia Sinica and worked as a research assistant in Prof. Dr. Todd L. Lowary’s group focusing on the characterization of glycan debranching enzymes, the expression of mycobacteriophage proteins, and the chemoenzymatic synthesis of sulfated N-glycans.
Yu-Jen is currently a PhD student in the group of Prof. Dr. Marthe T. C. Walvoort at the University of Groningen. Her research focuses on studying bacterial adhesin glycosylation, particularly on identifying glycosylated adhesins and developing labeling strategies for further application.
